Dock crabbing in Ocean City

Any dock on the bay will work in OC. Alway have permission to use these crabbing locations or visit one of the public crabbing piers in and around town. You will need a crabbing licence and need to use the correct equipment that accompanies your recreational licence but other than that its a days worth of entertainment. One of the most peaceful places in town to crab is the pier at Northside Park. It's free and plenty of room.  Some other crabbing piers are 9th street fishing pier as well as on the bay in Assateague State Park. On a buddies dock or on a public pier, with a little luck and a  patience, you can bring back enough crabs to feed the crowd!

Crabbing from a boat in Ocean City

So you want to test out the old sea lege huh? Catching crabs from a boat on Ocean City can be a lot of fun. IF your looking for the most enjoyable experience why not book a charter. On the Get Sum, all equipment and bait is included and we can fit the entire family onboard. On your boat or ours the options are endless for crabbing. While out on the water you may see commercial pots in deeper waters or in areas with more boat traffic. These are not always the best places for a recreational crabber. The commercial crabbers are allowed to use large traps that they soak overnight while you will be using Collapsible traps, trot lines or handlines. Its nice to choose some of the calmer waters when on a boat. Some like to set a row of colapsables spread out attached to a float and drive around to check every couple minutes. Others anchor in one spot and use both traps and handlines changing their location every now and then. The adventurous crabber will sometimes use a trot line and scoop them up with nets as the lines rises on its path. All are great techniques and can be done throughout the bay areas and its tributaries.  No one spot is the best and good spots change throughout the season depending on water temps and other factors. Do not be afraid to explore some of the tributaries off of Isle Of Wight and Assawoman Bay, you could find the secrete honey hole and just hope you have enough Old Bay!
