Saltwater Fishing License
If you're planning to fish in Ocean City, MD, you will need to purchase a saltwater fishing license. Oyster Bay Tackle is now offering MD licenses for sale, along with boat stickers. This license covers both the Chesapeake Bay and the coastal waters of Ocean City. If you already possess a Chesapeake Bay Saltwater license, you are good to go!
Alternatively, anglers can also purchase the license online. Look for the "Bay and Coastal Sport" license, available for a year-round or 7-day period. Simply click on "Login" and follow the instructions provided. You can indicate whether you have previously held a license in MD or if it's your first time. If you're unsure, choose "Use ID and date of birth" and proceed accordingly. If you opt for a boat license priced at $50, everyone on your boat can fish without an individual license. In the case of fishing on a private boat with someone who holds a Boat License, you are not required to purchase a license, but you must register online. Registration is free and can also be completed over the phone by calling 1-855-855-3906 during daytime hours.
Out-of-State Licenses and Free Fishing Zones
It's worth noting that if you possess a fishing license from Virginia (VA), it is valid in Maryland (MD), and vice versa. However, if you are fishing in MD with a VA license, it is necessary to register with MD online. This registration is free and serves to track the number of fish being caught within each state's jurisdiction.
If you prefer to fish in Ocean City without a license, you have the option of the "Oceanic Pier" or "Ocean Pier" as they hold a Blanket Pier License. Additionally, Ocean City offers two free fishing zones: the bulkhead from 2nd to 4th Street (Chicago Ave) and Northside Park at 125th Street. Although a license is not required in these areas, you still need to complete a "free registry." The registry can be done over the phone by calling 1-855-855-3906 during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Party or charter boat fishing does not require a license or registry. Furthermore, you can engage in crabbing and clamming in Ocean City without a license.
